OMEP (World Organization for Early Childhood Education) is an international organism that for the last sixty years has been working to impulse best quality preschool education all around the world.
After World War II ended, OMEP emerged from the necessity of giving support to children under eight years, since during this period the processes of reasoning, identity and self-esteem are defined, and these are decisive for their development as a person for the rest of their lives.
Education is a right that every human being in the planet has to have, it is a right that implies not only access to information, but achieving support for physical, moral, psychological or intellectual development.
Today, preschool education faces the challenge of attending children within a framework of a society in crisis: globalization, intolerance, violence, family disintegration, abuse, abandonment, economic crisis, and unemployment. All of these have substantially impoverished the possibilities of giving quality attention for children, and in many cases, of not having the educational services that are required for stimulating growth.
Therefore, during this Congress, OMEP will promote reflection, and will try to encourage a solidary compromise for reactivating the educative task within a framework of participation, dialogue, and analysis. Also, it will permit the display of ideas and solutions that respond to individual and collective necessities, reactivating the children's right of receiving the best quality education that will help them participate in the construction of a more humanist society. |
